WACT commissions firefighting, recovery trucks to boost port safety
The West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) has commissioned new firefighting, recovery tow, and water bowser trucks to enhance safety and ensure seamless operations at the Onne Port in Rivers State.
The commissioning was part of activities marking the 2024 Annual Global Safety Day themed, “Be Curious Because We Care.”
At the event, Innocent Ogbuji, WACT’s General Manager of Government and Public Relations, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the safety of its employees, contractors, and stakeholders.
He noted that safety is a core aspect of their operations, adding, “It is our license to operate and a commitment we make daily to ensure that everyone returns home safely.”
Adeboye Ogunpolu, WACT’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager, underscored the company’s dedication to maintaining a safe work environment. He highlighted that acquiring the new trucks would significantly improve the terminal’s emergency response capabilities.
Osuntuyi Niyi, Senior Safety Officer of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), commended WACT’s proactive safety measures, aligning with NPA’s vision of safe and efficient port operations.
Similarly, Ottomfonobong Akpan, Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) Manager of INTELS Nigeria Limited, praised WACT’s high safety standards, urging employees to stay vigilant about safety in all aspects of their work environment.
