WAEC Candidates stranded as Oyo teachers begin indefinite strike

Thousands of students sitting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Oyo State may face disruptions following the commencement of an indefinite strike by public school teachers across the state.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) directed its members to withdraw their services over growing security concerns, particularly the recent abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area.

With public secondary schools shut, concerns have mounted over the fate of candidates writing the ongoing WAEC examinations, as many rely on their schools and teachers for access to examination centres and academic support.

The union said the industrial action would remain in force until authorities take concrete steps to address the security challenges facing teachers and students.

Parents and education stakeholders have expressed fears that the strike could negatively affect candidates preparing for their remaining examination papers, while calling on the government to urgently resolve the issues that led to the action.
