The Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF) will now offer free Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) screening and medication to young girls and women who are survivors of rape and sexual abuse.

This is coming on the heels of WARIF’s partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), in decreasing the prevalence of new cases of HIV/AIDS in communities, as it continues to support the survivors of sexual violence with its free health, legal and counseling services.

NIMR, a national reference laboratory with capacities for basic, applied and operational research on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria is continuously carrying out research and developing new ways to ensure that the amount of people contracting the virus is reduced to the barest minimum, by generating scientific data that can help improve policies and interventions in the treatment and control of the virus.

WARIF is a Non-Governmental Organization that was incorporated in 2016 by Dr. Kemi Da-Silva Ibru, in response to the high incidence of sexual assault, rape and human trafficking occurring among young girls and women across Nigeria. The foundation’s aim is to address this high incidence through the implementation of target-oriented, impactful and sustainable immediate interventions and preventative initiatives.

Survivors are welcome to the WARIF Centre at No. 6, Turton Street, off Thorburn Avenue, Yaba and are also free to call the 24-hour helpline on 08092100008
