As NAHCON asks SPB to migrate deposits to HSS

Ahead of 2022 hajj rituals, Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board (KSPWB), yesterday, cautioned intending pilgrims from making draft or cash deposit to any bank, or agency for the purposes of this year’s exercise.

Executive Secretary of the board, Alh. Abba Mohammad Danbatta, who gave the warning while briefing journalists on preparation for the 2022 operations in Kano, said the board has not opened any platform or call for intending pilgrims to make fare for the 2022 journey.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) had directed the state pilgrims boards to reactivate activities for the spiritual exercise to the holy land of Makka and Medina.

NAHCON’s directive follows the lifting of restrictions on international pilgrims for the 2022 hajj after two years embargo by Saudi Arabia.

The executive secretary, who disclosed readiness to reconvene the routine orientation for intending pilgrims about the activities at the holy land, added that, consideration for 2022 hajj will be based on first come, first serve.

The board refunded over N440 million deposits to intending pilgrims who applied for reimbursement after the exercise aborted.

“Although, we are still expecting allocation for Kano from NAHCON, priority will be based on those that left their deposits with the board in the previous years when Saudi Arabia closed boarder for international pilgrims.

“The board refunded those that applied for refund of their money but those that choice to remain their money with the board will be considered first. We have about 3,000 pending. Although, we would issue clearance for deposit from interested persons, but not until we receive quota from NAHCON,” Danbatta noted.

Meanwhile, NAHCON has directed State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board to migrate Hajj fare deposits made by intending pilgrims into the Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS) platform with Jaiz bank.

A statement signed by Head, Public Affairs at the Commission, Fatima Sanda Usara, said the directive was in preparation for smooth planning ahead of Hajj 2022.
