THE Child Protection Network (CPN), Ogun State chapter, a non-governmental organisation, has passionately appealed to the police, other security agencies and the government to urgently rise to the challenge of securing freedom for the kidnapped four-year-old boy, Master Steve Kanu.

Kanu was abducted on Monday evening from his parents’ home in Laderin Estate Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital and till yesterday evening, his whereabouts remained unknown as the kidnappers were yet to contact the family.

The CPN on Wednesday issued a statement, urging all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with the security agencies in form of useful information to ensure the freedom of the victim as soon as possible.

The statement signed by the coordinator, Mrs. Peju Osoba, read: “It is completely unacceptable that children will be subjected to such in Ogun State and anywhere in the world. We condemn this act in its entirety and implore the state government and the Police to do all that is possible to locate Steve Kanu as quickly and possible and fish out the perpetrators of this act”.

She added “Some months ago, another child was declared missing in Abeokuta and up till today, the boy has not been found. We cannot fold our arms and watch our children being abused and traumatised in such ungodly ways.”

“We stand with the family at this crucial and troublesome moments and wish Steve a safe return into the arms of his loving family. We salute the courage of the community for their effort and call upon all well-meaning adults in Ogun State to come out and stand against this inhuman treatment to our children. We should all be on the look-out for such criminals in our midst and safeguard our children from such.”

CPN, however, appealed to all homes, schools, and religious places to put in place effective safeguarding measures for the protection of their children.
