The United State Agency for International Development (USAID), yesterday, called for media collaboration to fight violence against women and girl children, stressing that such collaboration will not only increase the fight, but also amplify voices of women and girls to end Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the state.

Speaking during a media round table in commemoration of 2022 activism against Gender-Based Violence, in the state, a gender specialist with USAID State-to-State, Ejiro Okotie, stressed that the fight should be sustained, calling on journalists to intensify their reportage against the menace to end it.

Okotie lamented that women and girls have continued to be at the receiving end of GBV. She, therefore, blamed the menace on traditional and cultural factors.

Okotie said: “Let us think what we can do in terms of action to end all forms of GBV in the state.

“We want to work with the media to ensure we amplify voices of women and girls to end GBV in the state.

“Violence against women and girls has been a critical issue and many times, a lot of it get unreported, because there is a lot of silence around it.

“Women and girls have continued to be at the receiving end of GBV simply because of different factors; traditional and cultural.”
