Major infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will be completed before the exit of the Muhammadu Buhari administration on May 29, 2023.

Major infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will be completed before the exit of the Muhammadu Buhari administration on May 29, 2023.

FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello, who made the disclosure in Abuja, yesterday, harped on the administration’s commitment to ensuring that residents reap dividends of democracy through infrastructure development in the territory.

While inspecting the ongoing bridge project in Wuye District, he stressed: “We are making sure it is funded properly, because the whole idea and one of the cardinal objectives of the Buhari administration is to complete major infrastructure projects. By the time this bridge is done, Wuse and Wuye districts will be connected and traffic flow is going to be much enhanced.

“Wuye District has become very vibrant. Construction activities are ongoing and construction sites within the district are also vibrant. That is why, like the President would always say, infrastructure is key, and that is what this administration will continue to provide. That is the only way we can accommodate the teeming population of the city.”

Bello urged residents to continue to support his administration and the construction companies to enable them deliver on the dividends of democracy.

Speaking on the scope of the project, the Director, Engineering Services, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Obiora Ezeoha, said the work involved arterial roads, connectors, important local streets, minor access roads and two bridges.

“We equally have pedestrian and interchange locations as part of the scope that was added in 2014. Generally, the project is 85 per cent completed while the interchange location is 45 per cent completed. We believe that by the end of this year, Arab Contractors will be able to finish the projects,” he added.

The project was initially awarded in August 2009 and reviewed in 2014 to include the interchange at Ring Road One/Olusegun Obasanjo Way.

On the minister’s team for the inspection were his Chief of Staff, Bashir Mai-Bornu; the Executive Secretary, FCDA, Shehu Ahmed; the Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Umar Shuaibu and other FCTA senior officials.
