The Acting Executive Vice Chairman of the Federal Completion and Consumer Protection (FCCPC), Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi, has explained that the popular Sahad Stores located in Area 11 in Abuja was sealed for allegedly shortchanging innocent customers through misleading price tags on their products.
The FCCPC officials stormed the popular store yesterday with security operatives as part of its routine exercise in line with its mandate.
Before evacuating staff of the store from the six storey building housing the store, the FCCPC boss, who spoke to representatives of Sahad stores management, also took time to interrogate the price of some displayed goods only to discover that they were different from the price on their system.
Further investigations carried out by the commission’s enforcement team also shows that there were price differentials on the goods supplied by the same manufacturers as different brands carried the same price tags in the shelf as against the prices contained in the system.
Although the management of the store pleaded for mercy, the FCCPC insisted that the store must be sealed before further negotiations.
The FCCPC boss explained that a verification exercise would be conducted under strict monitoring to ensure that appropriate prices are displayed on all goods at the store.
