Why I support Trump — Bishop Adelakun

Bishop Taiwo Adelakun

The Presiding Bishop of Victory International Church, Oluyole, Ibadan, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun, on Tuesday, disclosed the rationale behind his support for Donald Trump’s presidency of the United States of America.

It would be recalled that Donald Trump was sworn in last week as the 49th President of the USA, having defeated Joe Biden of the Democratic Party.

Since Trump assumed office, he has taken some sweeping steps on issues such as immigration, gay rights, citizenship, and others.

Speaking with journalists at a press conference heralding a global crusade, Adelakun said he threw his weight behind Trump because of his stance on faith and certain values.

The Global Miracle Crusade is set to hold between Sunday, February 2, and Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Wonder City, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, opposite Dominion University, Ibadan, with the theme, ‘Emmanuel.’

The cleric said the crusade would provide solutions and salvation to mankind.

According to the Bishop, many churches are involved, with many music ministers participating in the crusade. Adequate security has been arranged, and there will be provisions for feeding and free transportation across many parts of Ibadan.

Adelakun stressed that Christian values must be upheld, adding that America was at a moral nadir when Trump came on board.

Adelakun said, “I would like to express my support for him because I love my faith, so it’s an issue of faith. A lot of compromises were happening in America under the watch of the Democratic Party, from the time of Obama to the time of Joe Biden. That began to compromise our faith. For instance, now, if you don’t want to say anything about Christmas, it’s just a ‘happy holiday.’ Christmas is Christmas. His name is Jesus.

“He reigns over the whole world. Christmas is Christmas. God bless his supporters.

“It was Donald Trump, in his first term, who restored Christmas. And then this gay movement, this LGBT thing, is contrary to the word of God. We stand where we stand.

“Paul said to the Romans, ‘Because they retain not God in their knowledge, but when God gives them the reprobate mind to do things that are not convenient, man with man, woman with woman, they retain God not in their knowledge.’ Those are his convictions that I share. Those are his values that I share.

“And if you’re a keen observer of what happened in America, the establishment did everything to make sure he didn’t come on board. But to come on board, that’s to show that God can do anything. God has the final say. And he came up with a mantra, making America great again. The America that the founding fathers founded on God, in God we trust. That’s what you see on the dollar bill. But is that same in America today? It’s the headquarters of sodomy, the headquarters of Gomorrah. So, it’s the values that he had that I share, not his person. And we need to have a mature mind in our approach to governance.”

He added that Donald Trump might not be the best man, but he was the one available for God to use.

He urged Nigerians to come to God for Him to take away their yoke.

“My yoke is easy, my burden is light. Every one of us knows what’s going on in our nation today. There’s what’s called the law of divine exception. It simply states that what’s happening to us is not permitted to happen around me,” he said.

He also called on Nigerians to promote peaceful co-existence, adding that there would be a better future for the country.
