Why ICPC staff, board should be mindful of actions, by Aliyu

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has called on its management staff and board members to be mindful of their decisions and actions because they will eventually account for them.

Chairman of ICPC, Dr Musa Aliyu, gave the charge, yesterday, in his welcome address during the opening of a two-day workshop for its management staff and board members for the development of a new Strategic Plan 2024-2028.

He urged the participants to always take pride in the honest work they do as this would not only improve individual and organisational competences, performances and outcomes but also be valued, recognised and encouraged.

“We have the responsibility to think highly of the task before us to primarily help to achieve the reasons we are here.

“While we get ready to begin the final lap of developing another strategic plan, I humbly remind us to be mindful of our actions and decisions because we will all account for them. We also need to be conscious of the anti-corruption culture of integrity nurtured by a sense of responsibility and be guided by professionalism. I also use this opportunity to implore all of us to participate in the workshop perceptively and fruitfully for a purposeful climax,” Aliyu said.

The ICPC boss appreciated the strategic plan development committee for its effort in the success of the workshop. He also thanked Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) for its technical support.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti-corruption and Financial Crimes, Emmanuel Udende, in his message, expressed delight that ICPC adopted the policy of developing strategic plans to guide its activities.

“This will ensure that it stays focused and on course in the onerous task of fighting corruption in Nigeria. There is no doubt that Nigeria needs concerted and drastic efforts in the fight against corruption, considering the colossal negative impact it has on development for the country.

“Indeed, corruption is a cankerworm that has eaten deep into the fabric of our society and continues to dwarf developmental efforts and initiatives of government. Corruption does no good to anyone and its impact is felt by everyone, no matter the class. This is why we should all rise to the challenge of fighting it head-on.”

“This workshop is an action in the right direction for this fight,” he added.

On his part, Chief Justice (CJ) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), represented by Justice S.C. Oriji, commended ICPC for not discarding the 2019-2023 strategic plan, but thoroughly assessed and addressed the possible challenges thrown up.
