The death of Mr. Olawoye Dawodu on May 15, 2022, has ignited a bitter family feud, with his widow, Mrs. Titilayo Rebecca Dawodu, alleging threats and intimidation from her late husband’s family members.
According to sources close to the family, the deceased’s relatives have been making relentless demands for his business documents and property records while also insisting that his body be brought back home for burial rites. Allegedly, Mrs. Dawodu has been warned not to return to Nigeria if she refuses to comply with their demands.
Sources reveal that Mr. Dawodu and his family had been estranged for over two decades before his passing.
“The family of late Olawoye Dawodu had not been on good terms with him for over 22 years before his death,” one source stated.
Concerns over Mrs. Dawodu’s safety and that of her children have now escalated, with reports indicating that her in-laws are pressuring her to hand over ownership documents of his businesses and assets.
“It is completely unjust for them to demand his business and property documents from her. She has also been warned that if she does not give in to their demands, she should not step foot in Nigeria,” another verified source explained.
Beyond the threats and intimidation, Mr. Dawodu’s family members have reportedly accused his widow of being responsible for his death, citing past disagreements.
“She killed our brother and made sure he turned his back on his family. She also influenced his political decisions, which caused a rift between us,” one of the late businessman’s relatives allegedly claimed.
In line with Yoruba traditions, Mrs. Dawodu has now been ordered by the family to return with his body and perform traditional funeral rites to prove her innocence in his death.
As the widow’s safety remains a growing concern, there are questions about whether the authorities will step in to address this case or continue their history of inaction on past disputes within the Dawodu family.
With the escalating tensions and threats issued against Mrs. Dawodu, all eyes are now on law enforcement agencies to see how they respond to these serious allegations of intimidation, coercion, and potential danger.
