Nyesom Wike

A former Bauchi State governor, Isah Yuguda, and a former health minister, Eyitayo Lambo, were among 189 plot owners given a three-month ultimatum, yesterday, by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike, to develop their plots or lose them.

Others include the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ocean Petroleum and Gas Ltd, Nigeria Bottling Company Plc, and Lagos State government (Liaison) Abuja.

The affected are plot owners that obtained building plan approvals but are yet to commence development of their property.

According to a statement signed by Mohammed Sule, Director of Information and Communication in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the owners are to comply within the stipulated period or have their titles revoked, in line with provisions of the law.

The statement noted: “This gesture has only been extended to both individuals and corporate organisations that have shown desire to develop their property by obtaining building plan approvals but are yet to start proper development on their property situated within the Federal Capital City.

“Similarly, public institutions that have land titles within the Federal Capital City but are yet to develop same have also been given a grace period of three months to commence development to avoid sanction.

“The minister has extended this gesture to 189 property owners due to their desire to develop the property by obtaining building plan approvals which is a prerequisite for development of any property in the Federal Capital Territory.”

The FCTA appealed to affected public institutions that have been allocated plots to commence development, failure of which their titles would be revoked for continued contravention of the terms of development of Right of Occupancy.

FCTA stressed that the plots in these categories belong to individuals and corporate organisations, as well as public institutions that continually failed to keep to terms of agreement as contained in Section 28(5) (a) & (b) of the Land Use Act offering and conveying of the Right of Occupancy.
