Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to release outstanding results of the rerun state and federal elections held in March 19, 2016.

Speaking on Tuesday, when he received a delegation of the United States and Canada branches of Ogbakor Ikwerre, at the Government House, Port Harcourt, he said the continued delay in the release of the results breeds unnecessary suspicion and conflict.

He said what transpired at the election was the will of the people, to resist any form of rigging and manipulation of the electoral process.

“We believe that INEC should no longer delay the release of the results. The more they delay, the more there is suspicion, and the tendency for crisis, “ he said.

On security, the governor reiterated that that reports on events in the state are misleading, noting that all states across the country have security challenges.

The governor said political groups, for the pursuit of ungodly goals, were manipulating the Rivers crisis.

According to him, “All the multinationals are working peacefully in the state, including the indigenous companies, who are also contributing their quota to the state under a peaceful environment.”

Also, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on new media, Oranye Franklyn, said the non-release of the results was a reminder of the June 12, 1993 saga.

Wike assured the people of his administration’s commitment to executing projects that will enhance the living standard of the people.

Earlier, President of Ogbakor Ikwerre, Fortune Woluwo, congratulated the governor on his victory at the polls and at the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the Senate caucus of the PDP has demanded that INEC must release the collated results.

The caucus, which was led by Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio, on a solidarity visit to the governor, insisted that INEC should release the results.

Akpabio said the victory recorded by the PDP in the state is a clear indication that it is the preferred party. He called for tolerance in the political space, to allow for the sustenance of the state’s multiparty democracy.

The senators announced the donation of N1million to the family of the late Samuel Okonta. They prayed that Okonta’s death would be the last during elections, and commiserated with the government and people of the state over the death of PDP members during the rerun elections.

Responding, Wike added that “Any person who loves the president won’t be causing unnecessary crisis for him,’ adding that ‘if elections are held 20 times, PDP will win” he said.
