The FIFA World Cup 2022 will return for its 22nd edition at the end of 2022, with teams from all around the world competing. Due to COVID regulations, there has been very little intercontinental professional football over the previous 2.5 years, thus this would be a refreshing change for fans all across the world. Every world cup has a group of “favorite” teams that are predicted to perform well. These are often the teams that are in top form before the FIFA World Cup. Every year, there are also some underdog teams.

Predictions and early odds are a huge deal for an event as prestigious as the World Cup. That is why punters can even find special FIFA World Cup betting markets and odds from 10CRIC, among other places they can look at.

With that said, who is the top favorite right now based on the odds, and who is predicted the most to be the winner?

“Expert” broker predicts Argentina win

A financial strategist who correctly predicted the winners of the last two world cups has revealed which side he believes will win the 2022 FIFA world cup in Qatar. Liberum Capital’s Joachim Klement. Argentina, he said, will win this year’s World Cup.

Argentina was predicted to overcome Spain in the semi-finals and face England in the finals. It would be a replay of their epic fight from more than three and a half decades ago. If the prediction is right, it will be the country’s first world cup title in 36 years. It defeated West Germany in the final of the 1986 world cup in Mexico, soon after defeating England in a memorable quarterfinal encounter that included Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal.

Klement’s projection is based on a University of Nottingham study that considers economic and climatic parameters such as each country’s per capita GDP, population, and temperature. In principle, the data aids in predicting a country’s performance in international football games because of the ramifications on sports infrastructure as well as the supply of soccer players. It also includes merit toward the host country which benefits from having the most supporters in stadiums.

What are the current odds looking like?

Brazil is the favorite to win this year’s 2022 World Cup with odds of 9/2. Despite losing the Copa America final to Argentina last year, Tite’s team has been fantastic of late, with stars like Neymar, Casemiro, and Thiago Silva all poised to play a significant role in the tournament. The five-time global champions, who have not won the World Cup since 2002, have been placed in Group G alongside Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon and are anticipated to go without any action.

France is the 6/1 favorite to retain the World Cup, becoming only the third country in history to do so. This follows Italy in 1938 and Brazil in 1962. Les Bleues have been placed in Group D with Denmark, Tunisia, and Australia. Argentina is the 7/1 favorite, and if Lionel Messi is in form, they will enjoy their chances of beating anyone. Mexico and Poland, their Group C opponents, should be a difficult test, but one that they are capable of overcoming.

Spain has odds of 8/1 and has fared well in both the Nations League and qualification. Luis Enrique continues to impress as national manager, and his team is packed with brilliant young players like Pedri and Gavi, who will play vital roles for La Roja in Qatar. Spain, on the other hand, has been put in a group with Germany (10/1) and the match between the two will tell us a lot about how the teams will do in this year’s World Cup.

Based on the bookmaker odds, here are the chances of each team winning the final of the World Cup. Take note, however, that these are betting odds and do not reflect true chances or odds for a team.

  • Brazil – 18%
  • England – 15%
  • France – 14%
  • Argentina – 13%
  • Spain – 11%
  • Germany – 9%
  • Netherlands – 8%
  • Portugal – 8%
  • Belgium – 7%
