Without Zulum’s intervention, we can’t operate Arabic school, institution’s DG declares

Gov receives award, donates N10m for new books
The Director General of Nigerian Arabic Language Village, Ngala, Borno State, Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim, at an event on Sunday, in Maiduguri, the state capital, noted that the school, owned by Federal Government, would not have been operational, but for the support of the state governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum.

Ibrahim spoke at the 39th yearly national conference of the Nigeria Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies (NATAIS), held during this year’s International World Arabic Day celebration.

The three-day conference, which was declared opened by Zulum, had the theme, ‘Politics and Citizens’ Welfare in Nigeria: The Role of Arabic and Islamic Studies.’

The conference was organised in collaboration between NATAIS and the Nigeria Arabic Language Village. New academic books, authored by the organisers, were launched during the event.

Ibrahim said: “Let me make it clear to you, if not for the intervention of Zulum, the Nigerian Arabic Language Village wouldn’t have been in operation by now. The governor has given us all that we needed to operate as a citadel of knowledge, enhancing teaching and learning of the Arabic language.”

The Ibrahim’s position was corroborated by the Vice Chancellor (VC) of University of Maiduguri, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, who was represented by the Deputy VC, administration, Prof. Mohammed Mele and a former Vice Chancellor of the same University, Prof. Abubakar Mustapha, who presented a keynote address.

Both academics commended Zulum’s commitment to educational development in the state.

Zulum, however, announced N10 million donation to launch copies of books, published by NATAIS in collaboration with Nigerian Arabic Language Village.

Zulum was, at the event, was honoured with an award for his support for the development of education in the state.
