Woman nabbed for killing 65-year-old man in Lagos serviced apartment

After a month on the run, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested 35-year-old Adeola Adewale for allegedly killing a 65-year-old man, identified only as Mr Adebayo, in Abule Egba, Alimosho Local Council of Lagos State.

The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on April 26, 2025, at about 9:30 p.m., in the Oko-Oba, Agege area of the state.

During interrogation, Adeola reportedly confessed to administering a malt drink laced with a poisonous substance to the deceased, leading to his death. Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the suspect is in custody as investigations continue to uncover further details surrounding the case.

It was earlier reported that on March 29, 2025, police received information about the murder of the man at a serviced apartment in Abule Egba. Investigations revealed that on March 27, at about 5:20 p.m., Adeola and the deceased had rented the serviced apartment. Hours later, the woman left the premises with the deceased’s car and other personal belongings, telling the housekeeper she would return shortly.

On March 29, during a routine check, the lifeless body of the man was discovered in the apartment. At the scene, investigators recovered an empty syringe, two empty cans of malt drink, and two bottles of water.

The victim’s body was taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) mortuary for an autopsy, while police launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Speaking on the arrest, Hundeyin advised serviced apartment operators to implement proper customer documentation and install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to enhance security.

“Occupiers of serviced apartments should provide valid documentation such as a driver’s licence or passport,” he said.

“We could have arrested the suspect earlier if CCTV had been installed. The Ministry of Tourism, as the regulator of hotels and similar establishments, should ensure safety measures are strictly enforced,” he added.
