Women have been advised to resist being relegated to the background at home and in their work places.

The advice was given at the International Women’s Day celebration hosted by the District 911 chairman, International Inner Wheel for 2020/2021 service year, Mrs Esther Gbadegesin.

The event was held to mark the day at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idiaraba, with the theme: “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in COVID-19 world.”

Free medical checks for blood pressure and sugar level were conducted at the venue.

Gbadegesin said Inner Wheel cherished the event because it had always been the day to remind womenfolk of the disparity between them and the men and close the gap.

She added that part of this year’s activities included a lecture, an arrangement for medical checks with specialists who would make referrals and also to remind women of necessary protocols to be observed against COVID-19, which include social distancing and wearing of face masks, among others, which were also displayed at the programme.

The guest speaker, Mrs. Fehintola Onagoruwa, said for women to be relevant, especially at this period of COVID-19, there was need to build capacity, develop inner minds and be determined to succeed and work extra hard.

“The difference between the rich and the poor is information, and we need to leverage on this at this technological age,” she said.

The local organizing committee chairperson, Mrs Adebisi Ojoniyi Adenuga, commended the Director of Administration, LUTH, Dr Babajide Grillo, for granting them free hall where the event held.
