There was a scare, yesterday, when fire broke out at the baggage hall, Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
Although no casualty or injury was recorded, the billowing smoke sent shivers down the spines of airport workers and passengers.
The Guardian gathered that the incident occurred at about 7:23a.m. with no casualty or injury recorded.
A source, however, said the fire was as a result of burning lithium inverter battery installation at the basement.
Firefighters from the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) and the Electrical Department of the Authority, however, responded to the incident, which successfully brought the situation under control before the intervention of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS).
Speaking on the incident, Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, said: “Only one battery was damaged and the situation did not lead to flight delay.”
“This in accordance with our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of passengers, staff, and all airport users. The terminal building was promptly evacuated due to the smoke that had permeated some areas of the facility.
