President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, boasted that the rights of Nigerian journalists under his administration have remained protected and upheld in the past eight years.

This came as he charged media professionals in the country to be patriotic, work for national cohesion, and exercise their freedom with a high sense of responsibility.

The President bared his mind in a statement signed by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, where he rejoiced with media professionals on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, celebrated every May 3.

This year’s celebration marks three decades since the United Nations proclaimed an international day for press freedom.

According to the President, the landmark is a tribute to media professionals, who risk their lives to keep society informed and educated.
