The Huffington Post has described the presidential elections campaign launched by flamboyant American billionaire Donald Trump as a ‘sideshow’.

The online news aggregator said Trump’s campaigns will not be categorised under its political coverage but as part of its entertainment section.

A post on Huffington Post’s website reads: “After watching and listening to Donald Trump since he announced his candidacy for president, we have decided we won’t report on Trump’s campaign as part of The Huffington Post’s political coverage.

“Instead, we will cover his campaign as part of our Entertainment section. Our reason is simple: Trump’s campaign is a sideshow. We won’t take the bait. If you are interested in what The Donald has to say, you’ll find it next to our stories on the Kardashians and The Bachelorette.”

At the launch of his campaign, Trump was embroiled in a controversy after making offensive comments against Mexico.

According to CNN, Trump said, “”When do we beat Mexico at the border? They’re laughing at us, at our stupidity. And now they are beating us economically. They are not our friend, believe me. … When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They are bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

He was again enmeshed in another controversy on Saturday 18 July, 2015 after telling a gathering of social conservative activists in the Midwestern state of Iowa that John McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential candidate, was “not a war hero.

“He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured, OK?”

McCain, 78, was captured during a bombing raid over Vietnam in October 1967. The business tycoon Trump has never served in the US military.
