Oseni Yusuf Salami, the founder of Youth Anti-Drug Campaign Africa (YADCA), has raised an alarm over the increasing cases of health misinformation and drug abuse among African youths. To combat this, he is advocating for a robust health literacy campaign across the continent.
Speaking on the issue, Salami, a renowned health communication expert, emphasized the need to equip young people with accurate health information to enable them make informed decisions. He stressed that health literacy is crucial for the overall development of African youth.
“Our youths are the future leaders of Africa,” Salami said. “By investing in health literacy, we are investing in their potential to contribute meaningfully to society.”
To address the challenge, YADCA plans to implement a comprehensive strategy that includes media campaigns, partnerships with influencers, and community-based programs. The organization aims to create a platform where young people can access reliable health information and support.
Salami called on governments, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to join forces in promoting health literacy. He believes that through concerted efforts, Africa can overcome the challenges posed by health misinformation and drug abuse.
