The Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has said he lacks the power as a legislator to award contracts because he is not part of the executive arm of government.

Yayi said this following a backlash from some social media users after news surfaced that he awarded a contract for the construction of a school to a non-Yoruba person.

Special Adviser to the Senator on New Media, Damilare Oloyede, in a statement, said the contractor’s ethnicity is inconsequential when the project delivered is of quality.

Oloyede lambasted the “mischievous narrative” by detractors against the Senator, saying it “only exposes their naivety and reconfirmed the quote by Malcolm X that ‘Envy blinds men and makes it impossible for them to think clearly’.

“This rabble-rouser and his co-travelers should know that what is more critical to the not-relenting Sen Yayi is the facilitation of those projects on behalf of Ogun West people. Who the contractor is isn’t part of his job description as a senator.”

Oloyede urged Yayi’s detractors to provide the inventory of all the ongoing projects in Ogun West to determine how many are Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa.

He said those spinning the claims are just trying to set the people against themselves and not the Senator.

Oloyede said what matters to Adeola is his continuous efforts at rehabilitating and reconstructing inner roads through instruments of legislation and representation, providing interventions in building schools, primary health centres, ICT centres amongst others projects.
