Yobe cancels LG elections over COVID-19 resurgence

Announcing the postponement yesterday in Damaturu, Chairman of YOSIEC, Dr. Mamman Mohammed, disclosed: “Regrettably, our state recently recorded a slight increase in COVID-19 cases in some councils.

“Our earlier preparedness was to conduct the elections in compliance with COVID 19 protocols as prescribed by World Health Organisation (WHO).”

However, the state government is on top of the situation, as the Ministry of Health has taken measures to identify and isolate persons who have been in contact with the patients, he added.

He urged stakeholders to appreciate the electoral development and support the commission to conduct a free, fair and transparent council election under COVID-19 preventive protocols.
