The Yobe State government has completed 133 Rural Electrification Board (REB) projects for over three dozen housing estates and communities.

Unveiling the projects, at the weekend in Damaturu, REB General Manager, Umara Mustapha Goniri, said 27 other electrification projects are to be completed by end of this year to boost power supply and the state’s economy.

“These are the modest achievements made in the power sector to mark three-year administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni in the state,” he said.

In sustaining the projects, Goniri explained that additional transformer substations and adjustment of township distribution networks were installed in each of the housing estates in the 17 local councils.

According to him, the estates are sited in Damaturu, Dikumari, Potiskum, Gashua, Dazigau NYSC camp and Buni-Yadi. He added that there were re-electrifications and upgrade at Government Science and Technical Colleges at Jajimaji, Nguru and Geidam, a border community with Niger.

Goniri said the board, in the last three years, procured two standby generators for Yobe University Teaching Hospital (YUTH) and the state’s ICT and data centre.
