Yobe State Executive Council (SEC) has earmarked N5.613 billion for the completion of an international cargo airport and ongoing projects in the education and health sectors.

The Commissioner for Education, Mohammed Lamin, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the SEC meeting held at Government House, Damaturu.

He said that the meeting, after deliberations, resolved to furnish and equip three newly-built four-bedroom bungalows at Government House for N1.8 million.

On completion of the airport project, he said: “An additional N4.2 billion was also approved by the state council as cost to complete the international cargo airport, Damaturu, in the first quarter of next year.”

The state, last year, awarded contract for the building of airport at N11.3 billion.

According to him, the commissioning of the airport is slated for or before May 29, 2019.

He added that N1.3 million was also earmarked for the completion of civil works at the General Hospital, Potiskum, this year.

“The council approved the construction of 4.5 kilometres of roads and five kilometres of drainage in the general hospitals of Gaidam and Potiskum at the cost of N1.4 billion,” he said.

Tuition fees for students in institutions of higher learning, he added, gulped N9.9 million for the 2018/19 academic session.
