Yoruba group alleges North unwilling to relinquish power in 2023
Seeks national confab or dialogue as a way out
A Yoruba socio-political group, Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum (YRLP), has expressed doubt over the readiness of some northern cabal, especially some it alleged are in government now, of willingness to relinquish power to the South next year.
The group, in a statement signed by its President, Akin Malaolu, said the forum was worried over the level of gangster and brigandage behaviour of most supporters to various political parties in the country.
It alleged that leaders in the North had made up their mind to keep power at whatever cost.
The forum, therefore, canvassed a national conference or dialogue as a way out instead of next year’s general elections.
“First, the northern leaders are playing out some indecent tricks to keep power in their region perpetually through various means, including registration of millions of underaged voters in their domain and these are sure recipes for undermining the credibility of the presidential and National Assembly polls.
“Also noticeable are the clandestine moves to change from electronic verification of election results to manual collation and purposely to trigger wanton destruction of voting materials and electoral documents nationwide. These warnings, if ignored, will not allow easy transfer of powers but also bring upon us all inconclusive and disruptive electoral exercises,” it said.
