The Coalition of Yoruba self-determination groups, yesterday, warned that nothing on this earth must stop the inauguration of the president-elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This was contained in a statement made available to The Guardian in Ibadan by the Secretary-General of the groups, Dr. Steve Abioye. Abioye said doing anything against Tinubu’s victory would be the easiest way to plunge the country into conflagration.

He said: “It must be made known point black that the easiest way for Nigeria to be plunged into any crisis of unprecedented magnitude is for any unpleasant thing to happen to Tinubu’s inauguration.

“If any untoward thing should happen, then Nigeria’s continuing existence as a country may be threatened.”

SIMILARLY, a pro-democracy group, under the aegis of The Natives, yesterday, urged the presidential candidates of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, to join hands with the president-elect in salvaging the country.

The group said it behoves the duo to take a cue from the outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari who, after losing presidential elections thrice, kept faith on the judiciary till he actualised his presidential ambition in the 2015 poll.

The Natives Supreme Leader, Smart Edwards, while calling on Obi and Atiku not to abandon Nigeria, said: “We are hearing rumours that some presidential candidates of various parties have started leaving the country, this is a trademark of any politician who is just an opportunist.

“We, however, called on LP’s presidential candidate to please stay in the country because his talents, ability and contributions are needed, and as a patriot, he doesn’t need to go on exile.

“We are also hearing that the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku, will soon be on his way back to Dubai. We appeal to him to stay back because his valuable contributions are needed in this country.”

Edwards, who addressed journalists after a peaceful march by his group, applauded the military, police and the Department of State Services (DSS) on their role in sustenance of democratic rule in the country.
