A South West socio-political group, Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum, yesterday, cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), against sidelining the South East region in their permutations for the 2023 presidency.

Akin Malaolu

In a statement issued by its President, Akin Malaolu, the group urged that the best of the Igbo, who should be trusted, known for patience and a better understanding of the nation’s polity, should be given a chance in 2023.

The forum said it would be unfair, naïve and dangerous for the corporate existence of Nigeria if the interest of Ndigbo is neglected in the next general elections.

Malaolu said recent moves by some political elements, to co-opt the South West and whip up sentiments for Yoruba presidency come 2023, are moves that the forum’s leadership considered as “unfair and naïve.”

The forum said, “The point, which must be clearly noted today, is that the Igbos are not happy with both marginalisation and discrimination”.

He pointed out that the two dominant ethnic groups have usurped any free role for them in peacetime and every decision that would make the Igbo contribute meaningfully to the growth of Nigeria and particularly the office of the president of Nigeria country seemed blocked.

He also lamented that the Igbo have been driven into a boiling point, deceived and weary, but not enslaved, adding: “They try to believe they are free men, momentarily vanquished by hoaxes and stunned by demagogy.

“They are seized by sudden anger, and now ready to break from the ‘paper chain’ that held us together. Must we allow the political decapitations to continue in our search for peace? Obviously not and not again!

It further noted that the Yoruba nation was ready to build bridges with other ethnic nationalities and promote unity and oneness among all Nigerians even in the nation’s diversity.

While restating its faith in Nigeria one indivisible Nigeria, the group stressed that the leadership of Yoruba Ronu would work for the emergence of an Igbo presidency in 2023 and beyond.
