• Says APC’s anti-corruption crusade a sham, Presidency disagrees
THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government of hypocrisy, describing its ‘trumpeted’ fight against corruption as ‘orchestrated.’

National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, who addressed journalists in Abuja, accused the Federal Government of double standard and dictatorial proclivities in its anti-corruption fight.

But the Special Adviser to the President on Media, Mr. Femi Adesina, in a text message to The Guardian, said: “The opposition seems to have run out of ideas so soon,” he said. “Daily, we hear the same jaded, hackneyed allegations from them. I think they really are to be pitied; they need help. A broken record that repeats itself ceaselessly is of no use than to be thrown away.”

The PDP said whereas the party “has, overtime, restated its support for a credible, holistic fight against corruption, unfolding events have confirmed our position that this administration is only using the anti-corruption posture as a tool to witch-hunt PDP members and perceived political opponents of APC government.

“We are aware that having realised that Nigerians have seen through their propaganda, deceit and lies, as well as their ineptitude in handling governance, the APC government is now mortally afraid of the on-going rebuilding in the PDP to take over power in 2019, and is as such, applying every negative means to decimate our great party, including the relentless victimisation of our key members.

“It is clearly manifest that the same dictatorial tendencies manifested during the military regime of 1984 are being at present, applied in the polity in the attempt to discredit PDP members and weaken our great party ahead of 2019.

Metuh accused APC and its government of having been busy denigrating the PDP and trying to appropriate its achievements, while at the same time blackmailing, hounding and harassing its elected members with the aim to cow and force them to leave the PDP and join their party.

“We have verifiable reports from our key members that agents of the APC have been approaching them to join the APC with threats to use the EFCC to victimise them should they refuse. The APC and its agents have been boasting that they have the powers to deal with or spare any person, depending on the party such person belongs to,’’ the PDP said.

This, it said, “clearly explains why the so-called fight against corruption has been selective and focused against PDP members, despite counsels by stakeholders that it should be holistic and in accordance with the due process of the law.

“The best example of the curious nature of the war against corruption is the fact that former PDP governors and ministers are being hounded and arrested over apparently orchestrated petitions, while their APC counterparts, who have more damaging petitions are being nominated for ministerial positions.

Even other APC former governors who have on-going corruption cases in court are being rewarded with APC tickets for the forthcoming governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa.

“On the issue of Senator Godswill Akpabio, we invite Nigerians to note that in the three states of Akwa-Ibom, Rivers and Lagos states, there were petitions against their former governors.

Whereas the former APC governors of Lagos and Rivers were rewarded with ministerial nominations, their Akwa Ibom PDP counterpart and the current Senate Minority Leader is being hounded by the EFCC.

“This is in spite of the common knowledge that Akwa-Ibom under Senator Akpabio is arguably the least indebted state in Nigeria, and where the governor appropriately applied available resources to effectively transform the state. We challenge the APC to show Nigerians any of their governors that matched the feats achieved in Akwa-Ibom under Senator Akpabio, whose only building in Uyo is uncompleted and being built with verifiable bank loans.

“The PDP, therefore state categorically that the orchestrated investigation of Senator Akpabio is politically motivated and targeted at weakening the PDP for 2019 elections, by virtue of his being the face of opposition in the National Assembly.

“ It is also part of the fight by the Presidency to weaken the legislature as an arm of government and prevent it from effectively carrying out its constitutional role of checks and balances in a democracy.

“As we speak, no APC member, despite the public petitions of corruption and squandering of state funds, has been invited or questioned by the EFCC. We challenge the EFCC, as an anti-corruption agency, to show Nigerians any member of the APC it has so far questioned, not to talk of being arrested since the emergence of this administration, despite petitions against them.

“Recall that even the case of former Adamawa state Governor Murtala Nyako started before the advent of the current administration but is now reportedly being worked on ostensibly to extricate APC members involved.

“This government has established itself as a hypocritical regime that accommodates corruption, profligacy and sleazes in government quarters while hoodwinking the people and witch-hunting PDP members.

“The hypocrisy of this administration came to the fore with the show of insensitivity to the mood of the nation as copiously demonstrated in Saturday’s ostentatious thanksgiving party (with hundreds of millions of naira spent) by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SFG) Engr. Babachir David Lawal, at a time the people of the North East geo-political zone, where he hails from, are being ravaged by insurgency.

“Finally, we request Mr. President to end this dictatorial proclivity of selective anti-corruption war that has characterised the APC government.”

When a shameless individual decides to advertise his emptiness in the public you do not expect anything worthwhile from him. Olisa Metuh talking about “APC’s ineptitude in public governance”? Haba Metuh! You should ask yourself the origin of the word “Cluelessness” in the immediate past. Why not just admit to yourself that Nigerians rejected your party at the polls and sulk in silence. Must you assault our patience every morning? Obviously, it is difficult to allow the pain sink in after boasting that your party will rule for 60 years only to be kicked out after sixteen wasted years. I am no fan of the APC, but it must be said that the antics of Metuh and his party are becoming a daily insult. Please, sulk in silence.

Efeturi Ojakaminor are you paid by APC for this your comment. Metuh facts are firm and resolute. Selective fight of Buhari must stop and all well reasoning persons have since accepted that.

APC is a shameless party that is out to ridicule any perceived opponent at any given opportunity. we all know PDP was not clean as a ruling party but have Atiku and co turned saint just because they joined the ruling party? Does membership of APC guaranty past corrupt leaders immunity against corruption? APC sixteen years expiring date will soon come to an end, but can Nigerians wait that long this time?

Please Kaima, what is firm and resolute about Metuh’s PDP ranting? Olisa Metuh is hitting his head on the wall in his privacy for been used to propagate this PDP craziness I guess. Evwry case of corrupt government official should be tackled as it comes regardless of the party the target nelongs. Has it occurred to you that Lamorde might just be showing presence as EFCC Boss because he also is under the torchlight of the DSS. Please let us not embelish the damage PDP has caused the nation in 16years. We should be glad that someone with enough guts has taken the lead to drive the country towards a more reasonable society, where impunity among the goverment official will be never again become the order of the day. It will get to the rogues among APC someday, so lets allow PDP to feel the pain of their carelessness while the procesa of antigraft is followed carefully for our records.

Olisa Metuh is just a foolish fool, u think by noise making PDP will forgive ur failure? U are a complete looser, confirm MUMU

Can you tell me one APC ex governor that has been arrested or questioned by the so-called EFCC. Nigeria still have a long way to go, For transparency and accountability, there must be a fear institutions and face-less system!! If Rotimi Ameachi remained PDP member, he would have been arrested by now!!!!!!!!!!! Shameless Country!!!

      • Author’s gravatar

Its a normal thing worldwide to play safe with faithful party members, PDP should stop making noise and concentrate on good governance as a yard stick to push out APC come 2019. At least we know how to vote now. Clinton’s wife would have been in jail if democrats were not in power, our dear PDP did some funny things from 1999-2015. So?

PDP IS BEGINING TO SCARE OF IS OWN SHADOW

  • Author’s gravatar

So far Nigerians have not seen PMB being physically and personally involved in any illegality as was
done between 199-2015. To us that could be anything but dictatorship.

  • Author’s gravatar

PDP, to me is providing the APC with the necessary checks and balances, in the latter’s fight against corruption. Issues on national governance should be viewed objectively by public commentators instead of the resort to abusive and vulgar attack of personalities, as some of us are fond of doing on this forum.

I guess the presidents spokesman is not able to counter the points raised by Metuh and therefore the presidents empty rhetoric… 3 petitions were raised against Fashola, Amaechi and Akpabio, and yet Buhari is interrogating only Akpabio and went on to nominate Fashola and Amaechi as ministers while the senate confirmed Fashola without a portfolio…
    CHANGE ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Metuh, always blah, blah, blah, blah! We have heard. Let buhari catch all of you looters in PDP. Whenever PDP takes over even if it is in 4040 let them go after the APC Governors. Nigerians just want looters caught. It does not matter to us the party affiliation of who is catching them or the looters party affiliation. All you politicians are rogues. We just want our looted money back to us. So metuh go and sit down and zip up your dirty mouth. PDP is beginning to run from its shadow and i believe this is the beginning of its end. Metuh is going off a very high wall, good luck to him!

Fellow Nigerian,i just want to use this forum to express my own opinion here. For how long will these people use us against our self. Why re we talking about party, instead of talking about good governance to Nigerian. To be precise,PDP was there for sixteen years before now,and we are watching all their activities all the while. Now APC re here why would APC not learning from the mistake made by PDP to move the country forward. This is how they will continue with preamble corruption,Ant graft and repatriate of stolen money in abroad back to Nigerian. We re tired of same old stories by these individual that made up this Government. All the stolen monies collected in the past what good have any person in charge made with the one collected. The present Government should come up with programmed, with the available resources to make good the opportunity and forget too much stories about make good shadow and water pass event.Note ,we want to hear,we re going to fix the electricity, fund our universities,Hospital,Road and empower the youth. We re tired once more, our Economy is in disarray, the youth re hungry no work.Lastly,i just want to remind us about this,no money to pay salaries of work force with families. With all this people in question present and past Government, why there was never a complaint about no monies for the security vault, security which they never provide for you and i which only God that is saving us.Great youth of Great Nation Nigeria we must decide what we want to remedies this whole problems. No time to delay good Governance is all we want. There was a say that soldier come soldier go barracks remain same, these people come and go Nigeria remain same.Party like PDP have come and gone, now APC re here,we don’t want excuses remedies their mistake deliver good threat of Democracy to Nigerian.

PDP after enjoying the spoil of corruption now you are crying of highhandedness!

  • Author’s gravatar

I really don’t know when nigeria will stand up for her right!!! Point of correction some people due to their own opinions and ethnicity didn’t vote for Jonathan (GEJ ) but certainly not against PDP !.

  • Author’s gravatar

It is beyond argument that the PDP, under GEJ, was a lamentable failure. For that reason, I could hardly accept previous condemnations of the APC coming from Olisa. But I must admit that Buhari’s handling of the corruption allegations against APC members, some of whom he has roped into his controversial cabinet, and the rather isolated ‘trial’ of the Senate President, give merit to Olisa’s complaints. I am becoming less convinced that this so-called ‘war on corruption’ will get us far.

No doubt. These clowns miss Jona. Please bring him back in 20-whatever

If Mr. Buhari is really interested in sustaining Nigeria, then everyone regarding of party cleavage or affiliation who squandered the nation’s resources should be probed. He will earn the support of Nigerians better that way than trying to pull a hood or quick action ..over the eyes of Nigerians.
What is the worse that will happen to him now at his age…!

Once upon a time, there was a political party called the Peoples’ Democratic Party. The PDP as it was fondly called gave us two former presidents, first was an arrogant, half-baked, gaffe-prone and largely corruption tainted chicken farmer from Otta called OBJ; the second was a more thoughtful, educated ,though massively incompetent and
rudderless fish groomer from Otuoke called GEJ. Both have had their days. The later will be remembered for taking
that monumental decision to concede defeat in a free and fair election. The former will be remembered for attempting to rewrite the Nigerian constitution to perpetuate him in office. What is fascinating in all these scenario is that
the PDP and their leadership have the misconception that they were planted into this planet to rule until the next coming of Christ. Their myopias beclouded their understanding that the Nigerian electorates have literally grown up in their
way of reasoning and understanding of what makes democracy thick. They massively voted the PDP out of office. But sadly and most funnily, they are still behaving as if they have won the presidency. In a twinkle of an eye, and even before Prof. Jega could put away the result sheet declaring Buhari the winner, the rank and file of PDP
stalwarts all over the country have jumped ship en-masse and defected to APC. The breath-taking speed with which this is happening has dumbfounded most of us and left us holding our heads in our hands in utter bewilderment. Now instead
of those remaining working hard to redefine their decimated party to give a formidable opposition to the APC, they are wasting their time trying to rubbish the anti-corruption crusade of the Buhari government. Just take a read: – “This government has established itself as a hypocritical regime that accommodates corruption, profligacy and sleazes
in government quarters while hoodwinking the people and witch-hunting PDP members’’. In my village, this is what is called a ‘charcoal calling a clay pot black!’ I thought the PDP told us that they were ‘fighting corruption’ while in
office, so what has changed now? What is all these hogwash about Buhari being a dictator? The anti-graft agencies were in place while the PDP hierarchy was stealing Nigeria blind; what did they do with the agencies? They are now
rattled that Buhari has not adopted their winner- takes –it-all, share oil revenue to the- rich mentality. That may look dictatorial to the PDP, but to vast majority of Nigerians, it is the birth of due process, the renaissance of
a New Nigeria. If the PDP does not recognize it yet, if the government continues on the track it is going now, it may take a very, very long time before the PDP can taste power again in Nigeria.

A “Corrupt Party”? Well it certainly takes one to know one.

The PDP in Edo State paid the Neo Black Movement of Africa (aka ‘Black Axe’) over 50 million Naira to rig the election there fore them. Then in the most recent elections all the PDP jumped from the losing side into the APC. therefore never actually losing power despite the wish of the voters.

So they are in no position to lecture people about ‘Democracy’ or ‘Corruption’

An investigative report on those shenanigans can be found here: https://bemigho147watch.wordpress.com/2015/09/18/2016-edo-state-elections-road-to-war/

Why are some people senseless ? The fact remains that even some of the APC members were inviting Akpabio when he was a governor to deliver Lectures in their states because of his uncommon transformation achievement. Amechi and APC leaders are running up and down to make sure Amechi cross the Senate huddle to become minister after allegation of corruptions for enriching himself and APC as a party. EFFC have not been able to invited any of Ex-governors that cross-over to APC from PDP party for questioning , why? Because they are no more in PDP they are now Saints?

PDP stop talk about corruption because you people Legalised corruption. Can you people make CORRUPTION a DEATH SENTENCE.
