As the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted infrastructure projects across Nigeria, Igbinx Ede Construction Ltd. emerged as one of the few firms able to sustain momentum on critical developments. While many competitors shut down operations due to mobility restrictions and supply chain failures, Igbinx Ede successfully adapted—and, according to senior officials, a significant part of that success can be traced to the work of a young engineer, Bright Ojo.
When asked how the company managed to maintain project continuity during Nigeria’s Q2 2021 phased reopening, Engr. Eboigbe Stephen, Senior Civil Engineer, pointed to the team’s agility and Bright’s initiative.
“We had to rethink how we moved materials, managed crews, and complied with strict health regulations,” Engr. Stephen explained. “Bright, although relatively new to the team, led the charge in reworking our delivery schedules and phased transport routes. His logistics plan was critical to keeping our projects active when most sites were forced to pause.”
Bright had joined the company as an Engineering Trainee and was quickly promoted to Junior Civil and Logistics Engineer in the Project Planning and Logistics Coordination Unit. As Nigeria faced curfews, interstate restrictions, and material shortages, Bright developed a phased supply chain strategy and liaised with suppliers to maintain just-in-time delivery for high-priority projects, including upgrades to road infrastructure and a public health facility in Abuja’s Garki District.
“What stood out was his ability to think ahead,” Engr. Stephen added. “He wasn’t just reacting to problems; he was solving them before they escalated. That kind of clarity and leadership is rare, especially from someone still early in their career.”
His contributions didn’t stop at logistics. Bright also helped enforce site-wide health protocols, leading daily safety briefings, coordinating PPE distribution, and assisting site managers in adapting to evolving national health guidelines.
Mrs. Fadekemi Ajayi, Project Logistics Manager, also emphasised Bright’s decisive role.
“During Q2 2021, our logistics operations were under immense strain,” she said. “Interstate transport was unpredictable, labour was inconsistent, and material delays were stacking up. Bright took ownership of the coordination process; he revised dispatch routes, adjusted delivery timing based on curfews, and ensured that essential materials reached our teams on time. His composure and responsiveness directly prevented several potential shutdowns.”
Company executives have since adopted Bright’s COVID-era logistics model as a training reference for future resilience planning. His contributions have been credited with ensuring that national recovery projects were completed without major disruption.
“Bright’s work during that period was extraordinary,” Engr. Stephen concluded. “His leadership helped us deliver in a time of national uncertainty. It wasn’t just about moving materials; it was about keeping operations alive, safely and efficiently.”
Now a key member of Igbinx Ede’s engineering team, Bright Ojo continues to focus on designing scalable logistics systems and improving infrastructure response strategies, advancing Nigeria’s long-term goals for sustainable and resilient development.
