Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, will join African leaders and policymakers in Algiers, Algeria, for the fifth African Sub-Sovereign Governments Network (AfSNET) investment conference.
The meeting, scheduled to run from September 4 to 10, will be hosted at the Algerian Company of Fairs and Exhibitions Centre (SAFEX) alongside the fourth edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025).
A statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the gathering will bring together sub-sovereign governments to highlight the role of local authorities in advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
“This year’s theme, ‘Local Power, Global Impact: Strengthening Africa’s Sub-Sovereign Governments for Sustainable Development,’ underscores our collective commitment to leveraging local governance for transformative continental outcomes,” the statement read.
The AfSNET conference, convened by Afreximbank in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC) and the AfCFTA secretariat, is designed as a platform for regional leaders, businesses, and development partners to present projects and explore financing opportunities.
The previous edition, hosted in Kisumu, Kenya, brought together more than 45 governors, mayors, investors, and local government leaders from across Africa. Discussions focused on inclusive growth, decentralised cooperation, and cross-border partnerships.
Governor Lawal has been invited to take part in a high-level panel discussion titled “Investment Showcase: Unveiling Opportunities from Select African and Caribbean Sub-Sovereigns”. According to his media office, the session will feature presentations on development-ready projects and investment prospects from participating regions.
Organisers said the Intra-African Trade Fair, which will run concurrently with AfSNET, will provide businesses access to a continental market of over 1.4 billion people with a combined GDP of more than $3.5 trillion.
