Meanwhile, the wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Lawal, has urged women to make monthly self-breast examinations a priority for early detection of cancer.
Speaking during a Walkway Cancer Awareness Campaign held in Gusau, Hajiya Huriyya emphasized that early detection remains key to saving lives.
She identified warning signs of breast cancer to include lumps or swelling in the breast or underarm, changes in breast size or shape, and unusual nipple discharge or pain.
“My dear sisters, mothers, and daughters, cancer does not discriminate by age, status, or background. But together, through awareness and early detection, we can save countless lives,” she said.
“Let us support one another, get screened, and spread the message of hope across the state. Together we will build a healthier, stronger, and more hopeful Zamfara.”
She further encouraged women to undergo annual clinical breast examinations, take the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, eat healthy, exercise regularly, and avoid smoking.
“Breast and cervical cancers are among the most common cancers affecting women in Zamfara and across Nigeria,” she warned. “Let us support one another, get screened, and spread the message of hope. Together, we can build a healthier, stronger, and more hopeful Zamfara.
“Take the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, eat healthy, exercise yourself and avoid smoking.
“Be warned, breast and cervical cancer are among the common cancers affecting women in the state and the country as a whole.”
