Borno State governor Babagana Zulum

Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has approved a four-week extension for the Flood Disaster Relief Disbursement Committee, to provide food items to flood victims in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Bukar Tijani stated this on Thursday in Maiduguri.

He said the development was sequel to the devastating floods that caused significant loss of lives, destruction of properties and livelihoods in Maiduguri and adjourning communities.

Tijani said the committee was earlier set to conclude distribution exercise this week, adding that the extension would facilitate thorough assessment of the flood victims for support.

He said the governor had reviewed the interim report of the committee, and in light of the progress made so far, directed the extension of its mandate by four weeks.

“This will allow for the completion of the disbursement process and ensure that no victim is left behind.

“The relief efforts are part of broader initiative by the Borno state government to support flood victims and help rebuild communities affected by the disaster,” Tijani said.

According to him, the committee has made considerable progress in line with its terms of reference, adding that additional time was necessary to fully assess and reach all the victims.

He reiterated government commitment to provide adequate support to persons affected by the disaster.
