Zulum signs Borno’s N616b budget into law
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has signed the state’s N615.86 billion appropriation bill for 2025 into law. The House of Assembly raised the initial proposal of N584.76 billion by 5.7 per cent (N31.1 billion) on December 9, 2024, to arrive at the new figure.
Assenting to the passed bill, yesterday, in Maiduguri, Zulum charged heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as members of the State Executive Council (SEC) to strictly adhere to the provisions of the budget while presenting their memos for approval.
On the Assembly’s quick passage of the budget, he said: “This is very important, as the development strides could not have been achieved with the full support and leadership of the House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan.
“This year is important to me, as I wanted to redeem all the pledges made during the 2023 electioneering \to the people.”
While defending the Assembly’s increase of the budget, Lawan noted that it was to capture critical sectors in the budget to improve the living conditions of the people in the state.
Meanwhile, the governor appointed the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Mustapha Mallumbe, as his Deputy Chief of Staff. Mallumbe’s new appointment followed a vacuum created as a result of the indisposition of the Chief of Staff, Prof Hussaini Marte.
