A note for Ambode, LSPWC

SIR: Residents of Ejigbo in particular and commuters on Isolo-Ikotun axis have finally got a saviour in Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on the problematic route due to very bad stretch of road. Ambode listened to the people’s cries; their tears moved him to experience the Isolo-Ikotun road and his heart was touched. He ordered equipment moved to the site within a week of visit and…work began!
Rehabilitation continues, but for the governor’s work to remain indelible in the hearts of the people in Alimosho local government and commuters on Ikotun-Isolo road, the governor’s attention and that of his engineers in the Lagos State Public Works Corporation is being drawn to the ongoing reconstruction before it goes beyond amendment.

Worse still, the walled gutter will return the water from Ejigbo to the main Isolo-Ikotun road since it is not opened to the main gutter; it will again damage the road. The volume of water from Ejigbo has its natural course diverted by the said market

Ifoshi that juts out from inside Ejigbo through the Police Station and terminates in front of a branch of FirstBank at the T-Junction with Isolo-Ikotun road is always heavily flooded during and after any rain. The road drains water from most parts Ejigbo. This it does aggressively, but a major market directly opposite the road disturbs its movement. Channelisation is still poor around the market. No! The gutter being dug by the state’s Public Works Corporation will not suffice for the surge from Ejigbo that follows any downpour even if channeled into the new gutter that traversed the market. No vehicle will pass through the road during and immediately after the rain, as the gutter on the market side serves no useful purpose since it drains nowhere.

The silt deposit at the T-junction from (Ifoshi) Ejigbo Road will spread westward as the rain subsides, beyond the government yard and the junction of pipeline towards the East. Over time it will, with heavy human and vehicular traffic, degenerate to craters, bumps, along the road, as it normally does.

Part of the market ought to give right of way to the seeming river from inside Ejigbo to join its natural course beside a shopping plaza near the government yard.
