Sir: THE news that the richest man in Africa wants to become the owner of Arsenal FC of England is heartwarming. But he has not done anything to bring back the lost glory of Nigerian football; he must first accomplish that goal.

Our youth can tell you the entire player in EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga and other European leagues but cannot mention the name of a player in the local NPFL.

I remember when I was younger, my mother who is from the Southwest region would sing usobu sobu, Eyimba eyi in praise of Eyimba FC, a leading national football club, which most Nigerian youths hardly know about now. Dangote must not forget the saying ‘Charity begins at home’.

While the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has been and is still in coma, one of our own, the man who is supposed support football development and make the league come back to life is only trying to further cement the development of an established foreign league.

He must be reminded that it took Arsenal FC and other football clubs in Europe collective effort to get to the stage where global football fans gather weekly to pay substantially to watch EPL games.

Dangote should invest in Nigerian football to make it attractive and compete with foreign football leagues. He and other wealthy Nigerians can help bring back the lost glory, not kill the league.
