SIR: The Nigerian press would not forget in hurry the incident that caught one of their own at Aso Villa press centre napping. The reporter with Hausa Service of DW Germany Mallam Ubale Musa’s quest to question Chadian president on the role of mercenaries and the whereabouts of Abubakar Shekau did not go down well with Aso Rock, which led to his sack from the seat of power.

This singular act has sent wrong signals to the international community. After all, it is the duty of the press to ask few questions anytime a visiting president is in town to enable reporters send their reports. The press should not be a sacrificial lamb.

We expect that the president’s aides should know how to handle such a situation without unnecessarily attracting world attention.
