Sir: In today’s fast-paced and competitive world, the significance of young individuals’ active participation in the workforce cannot be overstated.
The youth are undeniably the backbone of any prosperous society, full of fresh ideas, innovation, and untapped potential.
However, the current global economic climate, exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic, poses significant challenges for the younger generation seeking employment opportunities.
The need for government intervention in ensuring job provision for our youths, examining the potential benefits and addressing the imminent consequences must be urgently considered.
For many, securing employment after completion of education has become an arduous task. Limited job openings, lack of experience, and high competition significantly hinder their progress, leaving countless youth disillusioned and disheartened.
The scarcity of entry-level positions compounds the problem, forcing many highly qualified individuals to settle for menial jobs, undermining their potential and stifling economic growth.
I felt that recognising the potential of the youth goes beyond mere rhetoric; it is a practical necessity. Governments must realise that investing in the younger generation is investing in the future of the nation. By providing suitable job opportunities, governments can alleviate the burden on social welfare programmes, boost economic growth, and catalyze innovation. Moreover, gainful employment enables young people to contribute positively to their communities, reducing crime rates, and fostering social cohesion.
The youths possess an unparalleled ability to reshape existing systems, question the status quo, and offer fresh perspectives. By ensuring their active involvement in the workforce, governments can tap into this immense pool of talent and innovation.
Motivated and skilled young professionals can inject dynamism into struggling industries, revitalise stagnant sectors, and spur economic progress.
Through entrepreneurship and by embracing technologies, young people can drive transformative change, propelling nations toward a prosperous future.
Failing to provide employment opportunities for the youths can have dire consequences for both individuals and society as a whole. Young people facing persistently high unemployment rates are more susceptible to psychological distress, increased crime involvement, substance abuse, and political radicalisation.
Furthermore, the “skills gap” widens when young people lack opportunities to put their education and training into practice, leading to a workforce ill-equipped for future demands. As governments grapple with the myriad challenges presented by a rapidly evolving world, providing jobs for the youths must remain at the top of their agenda.
Ignoring the need for suitable employment opportunities can breed disillusionment, hinder development, and squander the potential of an entire generation. By investing in young people through job creation and supportive policies, governments can build a brighter, more prosperous future for their nation. Empowering the youth is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic necessity that will shape a better tomorrow for all.
