Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)

…Chairman rules out alliance, says party will stand alone

About 13,000 members from various political parties including 10,000 supporters of Former Presidential candidates of Labour Party in 2023 elections, Peter Obi, and Former Governor of Kano State Rabiu Kwankwanso have officially joined to Nigeria Democratic Congress(NDC) in Ogun State.

The defection according to the Chairman of NDC in the state, Femi Alao, was as a result of Obi and Kwankwanso decamp from their former political parties, LP and New Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPP), insisting that the party won’t merge with other parties ahead the 2027 elections.

Addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, yesterday, Alao said the 3000 defectors and 10,000 supporters who move to NDC were formerly members of All Progressive Congress(APC) Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) African Democratic Congress(ADC) and NNPP in the state.

The chairman stated that the development indicated that NDC had received a major boost in Ogun State, noting that the influx of new members reflects the growing acceptance and popularity of the party across the state.

He expressed confidence that the new entrants would strengthen the party’s structure and enhance its chances in future elections, adding that the NDC remains committed to providing a credible political alternative for Nigerians and the people of the state.

“About 3000 people and 10,000 supporters of Obi/Kwankwanso have left their former political parties like PDP, APC, ADC and NNPP to join NDC because of the defection of Obi and Kwankwanso to NDC and they are duly registered members of NDC”

“We have what we call a tremendous defection for their members and I can tell you today a prominent members of APC and one time senator in OgunWest is coming to our party. He said he want to have a structure and House of Assembly for his people and it is acceptable. ” Alao noted.

He also welcomed the defectors and urged them to work collectively with existing members to advance the party’s vision and expand its grassroots support across Ogun State.

The Chairman, however, faulted President Bola Tinubu administration on the wave of insecurity and economic hardship, urging the Nigerians especially the people of the state to vote for NDC, insisting that his party reminds the only alternative to rescue Nigerians from his current woes.
