Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election does not require the involvement of a sitting governor in Rivers State.
Wike stated this on Saturday in Port Harcourt during the commissioning of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ headquarters, which houses Majority FM 89.5, a situation room, office facilities and operational vehicles.
Commending the Coordinator of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, for what he described as an extensive mobilisation effort, Wike said the state was firmly positioned to support Tinubu’s re-election.
He said Akawor had demonstrated capacity by mobilising across the state’s local government areas, adding that Rivers had already taken concrete steps to organise political support structures.
According to him, all 23 local government and zonal coordinators of the movement had been inaugurated, a development he said underscored the state’s commitment.
Wike maintained that political support should be driven by conviction rather than dependence on external influence or resources.
“We do not need a governor to mobilise for the President. We have senators, members of the House of Assembly, council chairmen, National Assembly members and party leaders who have made their commitment clear,” he said.
He urged the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to deepen their grassroots engagement by inaugurating ward and unit coordinators to sustain mobilisation efforts across communities.
Earlier, Ambassador Akawor, while welcoming the minister and guests, commended Wike for providing leadership direction to the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Rivers State.
He disclosed that coordinators had been appointed in all 23 local government areas of the state and described the minister’s political strategy as innovative, calling it “AI politics.”
