Governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Rivers State, Magnus Abe, has cautioned Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State against  making statements capable of provoking aggressive reactions from the people.

Abe claimed the masses were unhappy with the manner the 2023 governorship and state House of Assembly elections were conducted, especially the way voters were allegedly intimidated,  bullied and coerced to vote for a particular party against their will.

This is as the All Progressives Congress chieftain, Tony Okocha, congratulated the governor-elect, Siminialayi Fubara, expressing confidence that his government would bring developments and unity to the state.

Speaking, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, Abe said it was unreasonable for Wike to say some candidates, including him (Abe) were not prepared for the election, stressing that the best way to test the popularity of candidates was to allow free and fair elections,  which, according to him, was not done.

“Those who have done what they have done should respect the peace in the state by making sure their comments do not inflame those who are already offended,” Abe stated

Recall that Wike during a live broadcast, on Tuesday, said Abe’s ambition was just to have a chance to be named on the ballot as governorship candidate  of a party having been denied the APC ticket twice by his former friend, Chibuike Amaechi.

Speaking further, Abe said: “If you want to know if people are ready for election, you should have allowed election to hold. You can’t lock-up the entire state with violence and expect something different.

“Thousands of non indigenes that came out to vote were beaten to stupor, how was I suppose to prepare for such election?  To hire my own thugs and miscreants to get votes?

“The best way to express popularity of candidates was to have allowed people to freely vote with their PVCs but sadly that was not done.” He said, though a perfect election was not expected in Rivers State, the people  had longed for an election, where everybody will have been given an opportunity to participate and express their preference.

On his part, Okocha speaking at an event at Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic in Port Harcourt to celebrate the Victory of Fubara said it was a dream come true and expressed confidence that the governor-elect would bring massive developments across the  state.

“Youths in thousands came out to celebrate the governor-elect. We look forward to a better Rivers State as he has vowed to continue and consolidate on the performance of Wike, who has done well,” he said.
