The presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Yabagi Yusuf Sanni, yesterday said that for Nigeria to move forward, its leaders must depart from the present way of handling issues.

Sanni, who spoke with journalists after a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his private residence at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, said it was saddening that even though President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government used the precarious economic situation as a major campaign issue during the 2015 general elections to come to power, the security situation now is worse.

He said: “This is a country whose GDP was about $570 billion just about two to three years ago, growing at the rate of five per cent and today, the economy has gone down to 1.5 per cent growth rate.

“With all the potentials of this nation, God does not want us to suffer hunger, killings, lack of capacity in governance and lack of direction.”The ADP presidential candidate, who praised Obasanjo for his “tireless efforts” towards the country’s unity, stated: “The situation where you have power without knowledge is crisis and that’s why we are here.

“Former President Obasanjo is a good example of who Nigeria needs as a leader. He is somebody who works twenty-four-seven and engages with international communities and respected and that’s the kind of leadership we want in this country.“We can’t have oil and gas and occupied sixth position in the list of countries that export crude oil and be in poverty as we are.”
