The Osun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has again postponed its primary election to pick a candidate for the September 22 governorship election. The primary had earlier been shifted and rescheduled to hold today, but was again postposed to a future date.

A statement by the party said the postponement was due to unforeseen development. The Guardian learnt that the postponement might not be unconnected with disagreement among members of the party over the planned direct method of election preferred by its leadership.

Twelve of 17 aspirants who had been cleared for the primary by the National Working Committee (NWC) had preferred the delegates’ method used at the just concluded Ekiti State governorship election instead of the direct method being canvassed by the party’s leadership.

APC Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, said: “Due to unforeseen development, the party has announced the postponement of the primary to choose its gubernatorial candidate for September 22 election that was supposed to hold today.“The party regretted this development but promised that sooner than later, a new date will be announced. All party members should be at alert.”
