Ahmadiyya leader calls for youth alliance, backs Adebayo for national transformation

The Amir and National Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, Alatoye Abdulazeez, has called on Nigerian youths to unite across ethnic and religious lines to influence the country’s political direction, describing Social Democratic Party (SDP) 2023 presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo as a viable leader capable of driving meaningful change.

Abdulazeez stressed that the future of Nigeria depends largely on how well young people can organise themselves strategically and rally behind credible candidates.

He noted that despite the emergence of youthful aspirants in previous elections, a lack of cohesion and strong alliances has consistently weakened their impact at the polls.

He argued that Adebayo’s candidacy under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presents an opportunity for a shift in leadership dynamics, provided young Nigerians are willing to collaborate and mobilise support beyond sectional interests.

The cleric warned that persistent divisions along ethnic, religious and regional lines continue to undermine national development, describing the country as being in a critical phase of its evolution.

He emphasised the need for a unifying national mindset that prioritises collective progress over narrow affiliations.

Abdulazeez also cautioned against vote-buying and other forms of electoral inducement, urging youths to reject short-term gains and instead focus on long-term nation-building through active and informed participation in governance.

Reinforcing the principles of the Ahmadiyya movement, he highlighted the group’s motto, “Love for All, Hatred for None,” as a foundation for national unity, adding that religion should promote peace rather than division.

He condemned acts of violence carried out in the name of faith, describing them as contrary to Islamic teachings.

On the state of governance, Abdulazeez acknowledged efforts by President Bola Tinubu, while noting that significant improvements are still required in key sectors such as electricity supply and economic management.

He urged citizens, particularly the youth, to take responsibility for shaping the nation’s future, stressing that leadership extends beyond those in office to include the electorate who determine the outcome of elections.

“Leadership is not just about those in office. It is also about those who choose them,” he said.
