Anambra guber: Soludo vows ‘street urchins’ will not govern state

•ADC candidate tackles gov over comments
•APC calls for change, cites security, social welfare concerns

The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, has said that “street urchins” won’t govern a state that produced the likes of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Akwueke Nwafor Orizu, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Prof. Chinua Achebe and others.

He stated this at a rally on Saturday, organised by members of his party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Council of the state, to endorse him for a second term.

The governor, speaking at the rally at Ekwulobia Urban Stadium, declared that Anambra is “too big for charlatans” and must not be distracted by what he described as ‘impostors and unserious aspirants.’

He also stated that the zoning system of the state stands, and that any candidate coming to promise to do just one term needs a psychiatric evaluation to ascertain the status of their brains.

Meanwhile, one of Soludo’s opponents in the forthcoming governorship election and candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), John Nwosu, has expressed concern over alleged derogatory words the governor used against other contestants.

Reacting to these comments, Nwosu said the governor has merely shown that “passing six is not passing sense,” claiming that Soludo made the comments to evade being held accountable for his failure in the state.

ALSO, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the November 8 election in Anambra State, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has highlighted the urgent need for a new leadership direction in Anambra to ensure immediate tackling of the mounting security and social welfare challenges facing the citizens.

He stated this at an interview with The Guardian in Awka at the weekend, noting that the numerous challenges facing the state require immediate change in leadership through the opportunity presented by the coming governorship poll.

He lamented that Anambra State is lagging in key areas and sectors, including security of life, property, healthcare, and basic infrastructure.
