APC Convention: Umahi inaugurates transport, accommodation panel

David Umahi

For a hitch-free All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention, Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has inaugurated the Accommodation and Transportation sub-committees, urging the members to ensure a successful delivery of the confidence and trust placed on their shoulders by the leadership of the party.

Meanwhile, the National Secretary of the APC, Dr Ajibola Basiru, has warned that the party cannot afford to impose candidates in the upcoming House of Assembly and National Assembly elections.

Umahi told members to ensure that delegates to the national convention arrive safely and on time, party leaders and special guests are properly accommodated, transportation between hotels, airports and the convention venue is well coordinated.

“I wish to sincerely thank each and every one of you for honouring this invitation despite your very demanding schedules. The composition of this committee reflects the importance the party attaches to the responsibilities entrusted to us. With governors, ministers, senators and senior party leaders represented here, it is clear that the party expects this committee to play a critical role in the successful organisation of the Convention.

“Distinguished colleagues, as we all know, the success of any large national gathering such as our National Convention depends not only on the political processes that take place, but also on the efficiency of the logistic arrangements that support it,” he said.

According to him, when the logistics work smoothly, the Convention proceeds seamlessly, but when they fail, even the most carefully planned event could be disrupted.

Expressing confidence with the experience, commitment and leadership represented in the committee, he said “we will work together to ensure that the APC 2026 National Convention is conducted in an organised, efficient and successful manner.”
ON his part, Basiru emphasised the necessity of creating a “level playing ground” through free and fair primary contests for every member to test their popularity before heading to polls.

Speaking at a lecture organised by the Alubarika Movement in Osogbo yesterday, he argued that as a large party, the APC must prioritise winning by allowing the most popular and acceptable candidates to emerge.

He also disclosed that the Alubarika Movement would mobilise and work for the emergence of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, for the August 15 poll in the state.
