All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Obio-Akpor Constituency 2 for the state House of Assembly in the just concluded election, Alex Weli, has said that his party never planned to win the 2023 elections and does not have the fund to also go to the tribunal.

All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Obio-Akpor Constituency 2 for the state House of Assembly in the just concluded election, Alex Weli, has said that his party never planned to win the 2023 elections and does not have the fund to also go to the tribunal.

Weli disclosed that candidates of the party have been asked to contribute money to prosecute cases at election tribunal, but described it as unnecessary.

The party chief, who dumped APC yesterday and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he decided to leave APC because he needed peace of mind, adding that the party did not prepare for the elections and had no strategy in place for winning.

He said: “In all the meetings we attended prior to the election, there was no strategy on how to win elections. We all knew that there was a looming disaster in Rivers APC.”

He alleged that Cole never connected himself with other APC candidates, regretting that the election was a one-way traffic as candidates were left on their own.

“That’s why I have chosen to leave the party peacefully. 2023 election is the worst poll we have ever witnessed, there was no plan and preparation to win by APC.” He noted that there was no point challenging PDP’S victory, saying he needs peace of mind, hence his decision not to join the party at the tribunal.

“I have decided not to challenge the outcome of the March 18, 2023 elections at the tribunal for the overall interest, stability and unity of our constituency, in particular and our dear Council, Obio/Akpor, at large.”

“Accordingly, in the spirit of sportsmanship, I warmly congratulate our dear wife and mother, Lady Emilia Lucky Amadi, on her election into the Rivers State House of Assembly to represent me and the good people of Obio/ Akpor Constituency 2.

“The election of Siminalayi Fubara meets my requirement for equity and social justice to the riverine communities on one part and to the South East Senatorial District on the other hand, having in mind that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, before now, has never produced a governor in the history of Rivers State.”
