APC rules out replacing Ganduje at NEC meeting

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, would not be relieved of his job after the planned caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings as speculated in some quarters.

The party’s National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Basiru, who spoke after the Ganduje-led National Working Committee (NWC) met behind closed doors with Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, claimed that the proposed meetings are being convened in line with Article 11 of the constitution of the party.

“None of these meetings are being scheduled for regime change in the party. It is being held to give stewardship of what has been done by the leadership of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje in terms of also presenting our audit report to show what we have been doing as well as the way forward,” he said.

The APC scribe expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed on the Ganduje-led NWC.

Sule, who chairs the North-Central APC Governors Forum, rallied support for the NWC, calling for concerted efforts towards ensuring the victory of the party in the Edo and Ondo governorship polls.

He disclosed that his visit to the party secretariat was connected with the crisis rocking the Benue State chapter of the party.

He added: “APC has five out of the six governors in North Central. So, for that reason, we need to strengthen our zone. We cannot afford any kind of disagreement in our zone. And I have no doubt that if there is any gentleman that can work to resolve that matter, it’s a man who has been in several positions. A deputy governor, a governor, a chairman, in fact so many other positions that he has been.”

Ganduje reiterated his desire to ensure that the party continues to wax stronger.

“When you are looking for a medical doctor, you know where to get him. If you are looking for an accountant, it is also easy to get one. But politics is an environment that has no boundary. A politician must be someone of character, capacity and capability. Those are what we want to entrench in our party constitution,” he added.
