The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has dismissed allegations of internal crisis associated with fallout of outcome of the Primaries held to elect the party’s flag bearers in the 2027 elections into the national and Stade assembly chambers.
The party, equally debunked insinuations said to emanate from the candidates that the open support of governor Chukwuma Soludo to the Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), may confuse APGA members and supporters into voting for the candidates of APC.
But defending the action of governor Soludo who is the party leader, the National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Mazi Ejimofor Opara defended the option of the party to support President Bola Tinubu of the APC in the forthcoming Presidential election, describing it as an unwritten convention.
The National Publicity Secretary of APGA, made this known weekend, when the certificates of return were presented to the party’s 44 flag bearers in the 2027 national and state legislative elections noting that APGA’s support for any ruling party at the centre is a time-tested tradition..
Ejimofor, a doctorate degree holder contended: “Even before the November 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, we said the “progressives are working together.
“In that gubernatorial election, APC fielded governorship and deputy governorship candidates but APGA won the poll overwhelmingly. Our people are politically wise and sophisticated, and if it comes to fielding a Presidential candidate, we know how we play it.
“It is nothing new when it comes to the Presidential election. APGA didn’t formally field a presidential candidate, but supported the party at the centre. Example: APGA supported the Goodluck Jonathan administration of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP in 2011. Under the Willie Obiano administration, APGA supported President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC in 2019.. This time around, APGA is supporting Tinubu. It has even become more beautiful because the party at the centre professes progressivism.
“So when we say Progressives are working together, it means, to some very large extent, the ideological colouration of APC, in many ways than expected, aligns with what APGA professes. We have this unwritten Convention to support any party at the centre”.
On the potential threat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that is presenting an Igbo man, Peter Obi as its Presidential candidate, Ejimofor contended that NDC isn’t a serious political party.
According to him: “NDC isn’t a party, but an arrangement of convenience. It’s a mere Special Purpose Vehicle SPV). No, we don’t see it as a force, a potential threat.”
Ejimofor also said the party has sorted out the legislative winners of its primaries and issued certificates of return to 44 successful contestants of the party namely: the three Senatorial districts, 11 federal Houses of Representatives, and 30 House of Assembly seats in the State.
He revealed that the 44 standard bearers of the party were also given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Form EC 9 (Affidavit of Personal Particulars of Candidates to fill and return sane to the party’s office in the following week in line with provisions of the Electoral Act and INEC Guidelines.
Ejimofor also disclosed that Form EC 13 C was issued to the flag bearers for the Senate, Form EC 13 D for the federal House of Representatives and Form EC 13 E for the State House of Assembly respectively.
He said the party has assembled a winning team, dismissing opposition parties as posing no threat. The certificates were presented to Senatorial flag bearers namely: Senator Stella Oduah (Anambra North Senatorial District), Senator Emmanuel Nwachukwu (Anambra South) and Hon. Dozie Nwankwo (Anambra Central).
Among those who were issued their certificates of return as the Federal House of Representatives candidates of the party were Hon. Paschal Agbodike (Ihiala, Hon. Maureen Gwacham (Oyi/Ayamelum),and Hon. Obby Nwankwo (Awka North and South).
The certificates were equally presented to the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze (Ogbaru 1 Constituency), State Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme (Nnewi North), Hon. Kingsley Onochie (Idemili North), Hon. Ibemeka (Njikoka) and Kosisochukwu Ibemesi (Oyi), among others.
In their separate remarks shortly after receiving their certificates of return, the candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Hon. Nwankwo and the House of Representatives candidate for Ihiala Federal Constituency , Hon. Agbodike hailed their constituents for reposing much confidence in them and other candidates of the party and promised to put their interest first in their endeavours.
Nwankwo and Agbodike said APGA parades experienced, tested and trusted candidates who have been in the National Assembly, assuring that they would serve as a strong legislative link with governor Chukwuma Soludo to deliver democracy dividends including security, good governance, and wellbeing of the masses.
