The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate and former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has assured the Southeast that if elected president, his government will reposition the zone to regain its lost enviable position and glory in the country. He also assured Abia people he would work together with the state PDP governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to return Aba as the commercial hub of Nigeria, as well as enable small and medium enterprises (SMEs) there to flourish, so that unemployment is drastically reduced.

Atiku, who addressed a presidential campaign rally at Umuahia Stadium, yesterday, said 21 million Nigerians are currently unemployed, hence the imperative need to support SMEs. He, therefore, urged voters to vote for PDP candidates in all the elections. He said: “You have to vote in the PDP to empower youths and women. Do not hurriedly leave the polling area after voting, until the votes are counted and INEC officials enter the results where the results should be entered.”

Atiku’s running mate and former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, told the people that no government would favour the Southeast more than that of Atiku.”PDP National Chairman, Chief Uche Secondus said his party wants peace, free election and for people’s votes to count.

Secondus, who alerted of allegations and fears that foreigners from neighbouring countries would vote in some parts of the country, said: “We will not accept any rigged election and voting by foreigners. INEC must take note of this. I urge the Ministry of Interior to close our borders to avoid this.”
